ASK JANICE…Healing and Health with Essential Oils

Ask Janice

Sage words of wisdom: There is an old saying that goes, you cannot turn the curb unless you keep on moving.

Within this segment, let’s look at healing our inner man from situations that may have caused BURNOUT. As we address these issues, let’s also talk about healing our body, mind, and soul through Meditation, Rest, Reflections, and Essential oils.

What does burnout look like?

Here is a Self Assessment

  • I have tension headaches, digestive problems, chronic aches and pains
  • I experience anxiety and cannot understand why
  • I’m always tired or I don’t finish my task or it’s consuming my thoughts
  • I struggle with life, work, family time and there seems to be no balance
  • I am short-tempered and I snap very easily
  • I am so busy but I don’t feel as if I’ve achieved my goals
  • I have trouble sleeping or I sleep too much
  • I eat and or drink in excessive amounts due to stress
  • I set goals but I never achieve them
  • I am a chronic procrastinator
  • Sickness in the body that’s consuming your thoughts

The list goes on and on. The pressures of life can simply weigh you down. Stress and anxiety can be caused by several things. Allow me to share with you some remedies from my own personal experiences. Mind you, these are not the be-all and end-all cures, just things to bring light to your situation.

Essential Oils

Back in 2021, I caught COVID Pneumonia. Talk about panic! I experienced anxiety on a whole different level. It would hit me out of nowhere, and my heart would race at the speed of light, causing my head to feel as if it were swelling. My thoughts would get all mangled and confused.

Even going to the bathroom was a task–it really was the worst, and I’m talking about using a bedside commode. I experienced shortness of breath, dizziness, panic, heart palpitations… I had no other choice except to meditate. I couldn’t move as freely as before. What helped the most was essential oils.

When I returned home from the hospital, a very dear friend sent me a package containing a variety of essential oils along with a diffuser. It was like magical moments of bliss that saturated my room with peace and well anticipated joy. Talk about ‘the LOVE’– I felt and smelled it.

The aromas caused me to relax, reflect, and remember just how precious and fragile life really is. I was better able to meditate on the goodness of God in the land of the living.

The smell of Lemongrass and Lavender were key for me. I dropped tea tree oil in my bedside commode before I used it, and it soothed my mind–giving my body, soul, and emotions freedom from within my trapped self.

Your sense of smell is closely related to your memories and emotions, perhaps more so than any of your other senses. When you smell something, it passes through a part of your brain called your olfactory bulb– which runs from your nose along the bottom of your brain, connecting it to your hippocampus and amygdala. These areas are responsible for your memories and feelings– which is why scents can be so powerful.

Here is a list of oils and their benefits.

Find out what works best for you, and reclaim your victory.

  • Lavender Reduce Stress
  • Tea Tree Antibacterial
  • Peppermint Boost awareness
  • Ginger Nausea
  • Chamomile Promotes sleep
  • Eucalyptus Clear sinus
  • Frankincense Reduce stress
  • Rosemary Increase focus
  • Sweet orange Reduce anxiety

Meditation

Prayer and meditation are central to many different cultures. These activities can consist of settling into a comfortable position, closing one’s eyes, opening one’s heart, and connecting to the source ~ The source of All Creation.

Through prayer and meditation, I learned to steady my heart rate and blood pressure, even while being surrounded by death.

Can you think of some things that may cause the triggers of stress and anxiety in your life? Could it be family or friends– finances, work, ministry, home life, or social activities? With all of the talk of the END TIMES nowadays in the media, that’s enough to either stress you out or cause BURNOUT.

How do we handle moments that seem to overtake our thoughts?

Prayer is a good start. We’ve all heard it thousands of times, and it’s true. However, anxiety can overshadow our prayer life at times.

Rest

Taking time out to brainstorm ways to calm yourself is like a dose of medicine simply because you paused. Stress and anxiety cut you off from the truth. We tend to stress over things that may never take place. We also can wear stress as if it’s a coat of armor.

Your nervous system may be in survival mode, but wellness is not just survival. That coat of anxiety can not shield you from anything. Instead, it costs you your internal peace.

Rest is essential for healing your body.

Notice how when children are sick, they stop playing and just rest. That’s what we as adults need to do to replenish our bodies– LET GO and RECLAIM life each and every day, one step at a time. A place called surrender.

Reflection

Press your way down the pathway of peace. Reflect on the end result and press towards that goal. An olive can only become olive oil through a crushing process. Stay encouraged no matter what. You have a greater purpose to fulfill, and nothing except you can stop it. So, find out what wakes up your senses and make yourself a soothing cup of tea…for me, it’s hibiscus, rose hips, and ginger… taking a relaxing bath…my favorite is peppermint…or sweet citrus orange accompanied with frankincense mixed in with my body lotion… my delight for a blissful treat. And remind yourself, Hey, I got this, then live life on purpose at the cost of being– stress and anxiety FREE.

Let’s walk through the process and address some common causes of burnout together.
