ASK JANICE….Getting to Know Me

Ask Janice

Hello, and welcome to my very first advice column! I am Janice Richardson, and I’m excited to share this moment with you all. ASK JANICE is intended for Healing, Health, and Happiness. Doing an advice column is sort of a childhood passion of mine. I’ve always been pretty good at counseling others. Up until now, I’m still offering suggestions to friends and colleagues regarding everyday life issues. So, at the nudging of my sisters and partners in a non-profit we founded together called Diamond Daughters Inc, I’m here to answer your questions, offer solutions, and give sage wisdom. My slogan is: I’ve made many mistakes so that you don’t have to.

Thanks, and feel free to ASK JANICE! Starting now!

ASK JANICE

Getting to Know Me

I’ve encountered many storms along my journey and I’ve made some pretty bad choices along the way, so I feel pretty confident that you can ask me just about anything from relationships, marriage, divorce, being single, grief, love, forgiveness, health and wellness, and even down to getting dirty in the garden. No pun intended.

In this segment of ASK JANICE, besides getting to know me, I’d like to address a topic that is plaguing our society as a whole–BURNOUT. As a mother, grandmother, co-founder, employee, ministry leader, etc…(the list goes on and on), it’s safe to say I’m well-versed in this topic.

Sage words of wisdom: You will face many defeats in life, but never allow yourself to be defeated. Never let fear of striking out keep you from playing the game.

There comes a time on this journey called life when you encounter bumps in the road, some rainy days, and even a few cyclones. But that’s no reason to lose hope. There are many paths to healing and wholeness. We tend to overcomplicate life at times. Our brains are good at overthinking, overanalyzing, and even over-processing situations and circumstances. That process can lead to BURNOUT. You can literally think yourself into or out of any situation–even to the point of having your back against the wall, which leads to stress and anxiety.

True healing requires letting go of the known and stepping into the unknown. I know–that sounds easier said than done. If you are anything like most people you need to know every detail before moving forward. But sometimes moving forward into the unknown is a Faith walk–surrendering your will, your expectations, and your disappointments to God. There have been many times that I didn’t know how things would work out. My reply was, God, I know you’re going to do it!

When I think of physical burnout, I think about fire and what happens to the remains. They are turned to Ashes. As I share with you, I am reminded of God’s words in Isaiah 61:3to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of Joy instead of mourning, and a Garment of Praise instead of a spirit of despair. Now, that’s a whole reason to get excited!

With all that being said, I’m excited to offer some solutions to Healing Burnout. Let’s walk through the process and address some common causes of burnout together.

Sincerely,

ASK JANICE

  1. Hi Janice!

Thank you so much for opening up your life experiences and heart to be of service, I love that!

Would you share your perspective on the topic of ‘waiting, waiting on God’?

We have all found ourselves in this place many times in our lives and one of the things I’ve learned over time is that its relevant what I am doing in the waiting in addition to praying and spending time with God. I find myself asking lately, ‘can I take advantage of focusing on other areas truly trusting God is in control of all of it?.

  2. Hi Mary,
The answer to your question is a resounding YES!!!
Waiting is one of the hardest things to do when you are operating on your own timeframe, your expectations and your abilities to make things happen.
During the process you can be faced with distractions, frustrations, and feelings that God isn’t there.
This in fact is a good time to increase your faith.
Finding ways to divert your attention is a major plus.
There are numerous opportunities to volunteer some time in helping others is just an example.
God knows what you need and when you need it. He will never withhold any good thing from you.
Habakkuk 2:2 reminds us to write the vision and make it plain. Then we are to wait for the appointed time because it shall speak and not lie.
So keep on working and trusting God while you wait.

    Thank you
