I Am Rahab….The Stepmother

You wanna know God!? You’ll find Him in sacrifice.

My husband has kids all over the place! When we married, I said his children will become my kids as well. Almost 17 years and eight kids later, we have become a beautiful blended mess, including baby mamas, a father, and extended family. What seemed impossible and untraditional has become perfect. We are a village. Looking in from the outside we may appear crazy and most definitely loud. Nothing about us is traditional nor customary, yet, like a messy quilt, somehow we fit together into a wonderfully blended family. No two pieces match and nothing appears to go together, but I wouldn’t want to be anyplace else.

God plucked me from the petite household I grew up in and surrounded me, overabundantly, with the overwhelming love of many. I’m learning patience, I’m learning what it means to die to self. To set aside what we want in this moment and focus instead on valuing others as highly as we value ourselves. I’m grateful for my husband and all of our children. I’m so happy to serve a God who works out messages through our mess. A God who loves us beyond our faults and impresses upon us his heart through the giving of ourselves.

You wanna know God!? You’ll find Him in sacrifice.

Have a very blessed day and I pray my testimony is a comfort to anyone who is doubtful today. Our God is greater than our mess. The heavens is His throne and the earth His footstool. We are Rahab too.

  1. This is Beautiful and Heartwarming, Jessica. You were always that Graceful, Likable, Gentle, Affable person whom I met in 1996 at Verizon. I would not have expected anything different from you. Kids are not responsible for being here and we cannot change our family. Opening your heart and home to them is what I expect you would do. And from my experience, it is WONDERFUL to have a big family, especially during holidays and other get-togethers!!!
I wish you continued Joy, Happiness, Health, Love and God’s many Blessings in your Extended & Blended Family…
