I Am Rahab…BLACK NO SUGAR NO CREAM

I Am Rahab…BLACK NO SUGAR NO CREAM

By Mary Olivio

I love my Spanish Cafe con Leche, but when I am in seasons of having it straight up black, it’s a time of focus. Game on, it doesn’t matter if I am wearing sweats and a tee, pencil skirt, and heels, scrubs these days of Covid or carrying 160 or all of 225 pounds of me! It’s a time when I may have many uncertainties going on and unable to decide, and my Black Coffee keeps it straight for me.

Ever take notice of someone ordering coffee, ‘cream Ma’am? Sugar? ‘No, no, thank you. I have, and before I was a believer, I often thought, what are they doing that they have no time for cream or sugar? Are they a coffee connoisseur? Or have you been with a friend, and while you are fussing over your fixings, they are mug in hand, already engaged! Serious as hell. No time for distractions or to be swayed; its focus, discipline. You leave behind the aroma of mystery, suspect and curious and maybe peculiar.

Note: a September 23, 2020 article by Readers Digest suggests if you drink coffee black, you might be a Psychopath! Endnote.

It’s a time of freedom from the bore of ripping open sugar packets, pouring cream, stirring, tasting, and tweaking to perfection. ‘I got my mind on my money and my money on my mind’.

Give it to me black. I know what is coming to me. Raw and organic, I will be on my way, I say because… I am Rahab too.
